Welcome to Northern Light Simmentals...

About Us ...

I grew up at Northern Light Simmentals, owned by my late father Wayne and my mother Joan Carson, who began their livestock operation with Shorthorn cattle. Wayne joined the Canadian Simmental Association (CSA) in 1980, and changed breeds to Simmentals. Wayne was actively involved with promoting the breed and served two terms on the CSA Board of Directors.

My first 4-H project was a Simmental heifer and I have continued to raise and promote Simmentals ever since.
I had the honour of being a member of the Manitoba Simmental Association Board of Directors, serving two terms as President.

Denise and I moved to our own farm in 1993, south of my parents' farm, right after high school. Our son Cody was born in 2002, and our daughter Carly-Jo in 2004.

We are kept pretty busy year round hauling our kids to sports events and junior cattle shows.

We grain farm 1,000 acres and have another 1,000 of pasture and hay land for the cattle. Our cattle herd consists of 150 purebred red, black and fullblood Simmentals and 50 commercial cattle.

Our breeding program...

We focus on raising good, easy-doing cattle, who look after themselves, graze longer and stay in good shape. Our cattle are not pampered, as our customers want less maintenance and more profit. Our herd bulls are sourced at various sales, where we find bulls to advance our program. Pedigrees and EPD's can be found on the "Our Cattle" webpage.

Our marketing program...

We sell half of our bulls at the annual Premium Beef sale and the other half by private treaty out of the yard.

In 2020, our females are part of the HBH Angus & Northern Lights Simmentals Sale to be held at HBH's farm in Oak River, MB.
