Welcome to Northern Light Simmentals...

About Us ...

I grew up at Northern Light Simmentals, owned by my late father Wayne and my mother Joan Carson, who began their livestock operation with Shorthorn cattle. Wayne joined the Canadian Simmental Association (CSA) in 1980, and changed breeds to Simmentals. Wayne was actively involved with promoting the breed and served two terms on the CSA Board of Directors.

My first 4-H project was a Simmental heifer and I have continued to raise and promote Simmentals ever since.
I had the honour of being a member of the Manitoba Simmental Association Board of Directors, serving two terms as President.

Denise and I moved to our own farm in 1993, south of
my parents' farm, right after high school. Our son Cody was born in 2002, and our daughter Carly-Jo in 2004.
We are kept pretty busy year round hauling our kids to hockey, hockey, and more hockey, volleyball, gymnastics and 4-H.

We grain farm 1,000 acres and have another 1,000 of pasture and hay land for the cattle. Our cattle herd consists of 150 purebred red, black and fullblood Simmentals and 50 commercial cattle.

Our breeding program...

We focus on raising good, easy-doing cattle, who look after themselves, graze longer and stay in good shape. Our cattle are not pampered, as our customers want less maintenance and more profit. Our black Simmental herd bulls are
ACS Advantage 349A, EGC Moneystripe 82A, and WLB Bull 223W 434B. Our red Simmental herd bull is MAF Northern Red 79C and our fullblood Simmental bull is from Double Bar D Simmentals. Pedigrees and EPD's can be found on the
"Our Cattle" webpage.

Our marketing program...

We sell half of our bulls at the annual Premium Beef sale and the other half by private treaty out of the yard.

Our females are consigned to the annual Harvest Hoedown Sale. Both sales are held in the Beautiful Plains Agricultural Complex in Neepawa, Manitoba.
